Rector's Easter Letter for 2017

Dear Friends:
Resurrection is irreplaceably central to the Christian story.  St. Paul says in First Corinthians (15:12-19) “if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation has been in vain and your faith has been in vain.” The same urgent claim is no less present in our time, as shown by American poet/novelist John Updike in his Seven Stanzas for Easter:

Make no mistake; if he rose at all/ it was as His body;
If the cell’s dissolution did not/ reverse, the molecule reknit,
The amino acids rekindle/The Church will fall.

We who follow Jesus, and seek to do his will, turn not to a dead martyr or a tragic hero at Easter, but to a living Savior active in our own lives and known through the powerful Spirit of God at work in the world. The church lives because Christ Jesus lives – this is the Easter message, and resurrection is essential to it.

Decorating for Easter

On Holy Saturday, April 15, beginning at 9 am, we will decorate Trinity with hundreds of flowers in preparation for the celebration of Easter. Please join us to help in this joyous transformation.

CURRENT NEEDS: We are in need now of toiletries, especially men's  shaving cream, men's socks and gloves, & men's deodorant. Also, a number of our guests are living without electricity so candles are always of use.
VOLUNTEERS!  And we need YOU!  Several people have had to leave the Core team of ITG lately, and we are desperately in need of committed people to keep this ministry alive and flourishing. If you want to know more about participating in ITG in the future, please contact Lori Dhiraprasiddhi or Father Burnett.

A very sincere thank you to everyone who has made a pledge commitment to Trinity Church for 2017. A list of pledgers is available here.

Spring is here!

And it’s still pretty cold. This is a tricky time of year because once the temperatures reach the low 30s the shelter overflow ends and people are outside again. Trinity is a warming station on weekdays for those who need shelter from the cold and is a cooling station in the warm weather. Our visitors need new men’s athletic socks. They also need self-opening snack items. Your continuing generosity is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much!
Diane Donato

Altar Decoration Memorials

If you would like to place a flower memorial or thanksgiving in the Sunday bulletin, contact Diane Donato in the Parish Office via email or at 221-5351.  A donation of $50 is suggested, but any reasonable amount will be accepted.  Only a few dates are spoken for currently.

We remember in prayer...

We remember all who work for peace around the world: for Capt. Kristian Tonnessen,  Petty Officer Kristy Sizemore, Jordan Sellman, Cynthia Epler, Matt Schumann, Captain Scott Whaley, Gunnery Sergeant Robert A Griffith Jr., and all who serve our country.
St. Dimitri Greek Orthodox Church, Salhiyeh-Sebki, Damascus, Syria
Praying for peace around the world, we continue to ask God for a deeper compassion and greater courage to offer help to refugees and migrants and all in need.
We renew our commitments to serve the neediest and most easily forgotten in our midst and remember all who are homeless and hungry in our city today.  We give thanks for the generous hospitality offered this afternoon at In The Garden, and pray for the Holy Spirit’s abundant grace in our fellowship.
We pray for all who are sick or suffering at this time – Jerry Sellman, Jean Olmstead, Dori, Brigham Page, Marjorie Holzer, Eleanor Johnson, Elizabeth Lilly, "Sean LAW-lick," Jeff McNealey, Walter Friedmann, Kay Sturm, John Sanders, Dick Oman, Sharon Whaley, David and Tyra and all in prison, and others whom we name silently or aloud.
Birthdays: B J Artrup, Nancy Gurgiolo, Steve Maher, Scott McKinley, Elizabeth Tracy, Emma Johnson, Lynn Giljahn
