CLERGY AND STAFF
The Rev. Jed Dearing
RECTOR
Rev. Jed serves as the 25th Rector of Trinity on Capitol Square. A forever fan of the westside of Columbus, Jed first worshipped regularly as an Episcopalian at the Street Church service of St. John's Town Street in Franklinton, where he was also confirmed and served as a lay preacher. Jed launched the Confluence Episcopal Service Corps Program in Columbus which he served for 5 years as director, including a stint as Interim Executive Director for Episcopal Service Corps nationally, before discerning a call to the priesthood. He received his Master of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California, then served as clergy in residence at St. Francis Springboro. Jed has previously served in the Diocese as both a member of Praxis Communities and the Commission on Ministry. Jed and his wife Raine, have two rambunctious boys, Llewyn and Reynolds who both love serving at Trinity's In the Garden meal ministry and riding the #10 bus with their Papa back home from church.
The Rev. Iva Joyce-Miesse
ASSOCIATE RECTOR
Rev. Iva is a lifelong Episcopalian, having grown up in rural south-central Ohio, and bearing early witness to the love of Christ-lived-out within her early faith community, St. Johns’ Episcopal Church in Lancaster, Ohio.
She discerned her first call to health care at the tender age of fourteen when she began attending physical therapy with her father after he experienced a near amputation of multiple fingers. She obtained undergraduate degrees in Exercise Physiology and Athletic Training from Miami University and subsequently attended Ohio University to obtain her degree in Physical Therapy. Prior to discerning a call to the priesthood, she practiced outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine physical therapy for almost thirty years with multiple segues into management and departmental directorships, but throughout, her heart remained in patient care and her ministry of healing.
Rev. Iva earned her Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia in May of 2022. She migrated home to Ohio to accept her first call as the Associate Rector at Trinity in May of 2024 after spending just over a year in Boulder, Colorado while her wife, also an Episcopal priest, served at her first call in an Episcopal parish nearby.
Rev. Iva is the proud momma of two amazing adult children, Ryan and Gwyneth. She and her wife, Julia, are the devoted servants of their nearly one year old cat, Sherman. When not engaged in the work of the church, Iva is an avid hiker. She also enjoys adventuring with Julia, cooking (and eating), time around the kitchen table and traveling near and far.
The Rev. Deniray Mueller
DEACON
This congregation supported me in my ordination to the Sacred Order of the Diaconate in 2008. They gave me love, encouragement, and support along the journey. I have served as a Deacon at Trinity for many years, celebrating Sunday liturgy and on special occasions, as well as Deacon-in-Charge of In The Garden for approximately ten years. At the Diocesan level, I served as the Legislative Liaison to state and federal government with Bread for the World, Sojourners, and Church World Services. I served many years as chair of the Social Justice Committee, publishing weekly alerts to the Diocese. I served on the Diocese of Southern Ohio Bishop Transition Team, where I was honored to be the Deacon of the Book at the installation of Rt Rev Kristin Uffelman-White.
I have been chaplain to Diocesan bishops in their episcopal visits, introducing and emphasizing the importance of Deacons in the church. I served for over eight years as a Deacon at Saint John’s Worthington and provided pastoral care. Before returning to Trinity, I served two years at Saint John’s Columbus, a mission church in the Franklinton area. There, we conducted weekly Street Church on the corner of Broad and Central Avenue, held a midweek service and dinner, and served meals for people who were uncomfortable worshipping in a physical church building or homeless/minimally housed people in the neighborhood.
I returned to Trinity in 2023 and am so happy to be back, worshipping and serving at Trinity Episcopal Church on Capitol Square! I preach on critical social justice issues and celebrate with Father Jed at First Wednesday, weddings, funerals, and memorial services. I conduct noonday prayer monthly, allowing the clergy to attend active clergy meetings.
My ministry at Trinity also involves outreach to the broader community. I currently represent Trinity at the Interfaith Justice Table and Columbus Coalition for the Homeless. I also advocate at the state and national levels with Faith & Public Life. On special occasions, I develop and conduct special liturgy (e.g., Morning prayer on Election Day, Feast of Saint Nikolas). In the future, I will inform the congregation about social justice issues and encourage congregants to act at the state and federal levels. To quote Teresa of Avila, ‘Jesus has no body but ours’. We can make a difference in our world.
In addition to my ministry at Trinity, I serve as Chair of the Spiritual Life Committee at Ohio Living Westminster Thurber, conducting services, preaching, and providing spiritual support to the residents.
I have been married to Dr. Karen Peeler for over twenty-six years, and we now reside in independent living at Westminster Thurber, a continuous care facility near downtown.

Buildings and Grounds ChairA Trinity parishioner since 2005, Bill has served on our vestry two times, including once as Junior Warden. He has graciously accepted our request to finish out this session’s role of Junior Warden on behalf of Mary Jo Kendrick. He states that Trinity is a loving and inclusive place, and loves the exciting energy from our involved parishioners.
Bill is a resident of German Village and an active member of Friends of Schiller Park. He currently serves as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher, and on Finance Committee. We have often found Bill in the Parish House taking care of our building in lovely ways - such as polishing the brass on our doors or taking care of general maintenance - without needing to be asked or thanked. Because he serves our parish in both large and small roles, we’re thrilled for his expanded leadership.

John Indalecio
Vestry Member
Hospitality Committee Co-ChairA Dayton, Ohio native, John Indalecio (in-da-LAY-see-o) is happy to have found his way to Trinity Capitol Square and honored to be considered for vestry. John left Ohio and moved to Pittsburgh in 1993 with Michael Gilligan and went to school for occupational therapy. We moved to Brooklyn, NY. John specialized in hand therapy several years later and worked at the Hospital for Special Surgery on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. John has written and presented extensively particularly about arthritis, and he has made 6 medical mission trips to Guatemala.
Both John and Michael were highly involved in the life of the Church of the Holy Apostles, including serving on the vestry and other programs. Holy Apostles is an important church in the life of NYC for its 5 days a week feeding program. We moved back to Ohio after Michael’s retirement in February 2020, moments before COVID’s arrival. John worked at a physician-owned orthopedic practice until August 2023. John loves to cook, travel and entertain and being close to family back in Columbus.

In the Garden CommitteeMy name is Chinue Mutiso, but I love to go by Chi. I’ve been a full-time member of Trinity since 2020, though my journey with the church began back in 2015. I live near campus on Chittenden Avenue and spend time in Lincoln Village, where my aunt lives. Over the years, I’ve served in several roles at Trinity. Currently, I’m a Eucharistic Minister and a frequent volunteer with the In the Garden program. In the summer of 2023, I also served as a volunteer communications officer.
Professionally, I work as a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Center for Biobehavioral Health at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. In my free time, I enjoy collecting vinyl records, DJing, and, when I get the chance, taking some well-deserved naps!
What I value most about Trinity is our strong sense of community and our dedication to bridging unique gaps within the diocese. I’m inspired by how we connect with other parishes, social justice initiatives, and the surrounding community. It’s a blessing to be in communion with individuals who share their God-given gifts with one another and for the greater good.
